UAB hosts Alabama Composites Conference June 18-20

The conference and exhibits will focus on developments in defense, power, energy, transportation, infrastructure and emerging applications.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Materials Science and Engineering will host the Alabama Composites Conference (ACC) June 18-20, 2013.

The ACC will include workshops, speakers and exhibits. The conference will take place in UAB’s Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. All students, and UAB faculty and staff, may attend conference events free of charge. Registration is required.

Three workshops will be held June 18: Managing Corrosion with FRP (fiber reinforced polymer); Sustainable Green Composites and Recycling; and Design, Modeling and Simulation of Composites.

The conference and exhibits scheduled for June 19-20 will focus on developments in defense, power, energy, transportation, infrastructure and emerging applications. Nearly 40 20-minute presentations will be made by program managers, CEO/technologists and experts over a broad range of technologies. The event will bring together industry, national and international laboratory personnel, business organizations and academia.  

A sampling of presentations and panels will include: recent advances in bridges and installations; green and sustainable technologies; bamboo composite products as the future; clean energy and whether the investment in it has paid off; innovative materials for protective structures applications.
