UAB Music's new guest artists, performances in 2015

Enjoy the sweet sounds of free musical performances with the UAB Department of Music’s full schedule for winter and spring.

In addition to the department’s faculty, staff and student concerts, highlights this season include the UAB Piano Series performances of world-renowned artists Pavel Nersessian on Jan. 25 and Nikolai Lugansky on March 21.

The UAB Department of Music presents more than 150 concerts, recitals, master classes and lectures each year for thousands of people throughout the region. The department features 18 ensembles, including the UAB Marching Blazers, Wind Symphony, Symphony Band, Blazer Band, Computer Music Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Electro-Acoustic Percussion Ensemble, Gospel Choir, Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Piano Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, Opera, Brass Ensemble, Clarinet Choir, Woodwind Quintet, Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo. It is part of the UAB College of Arts and Sciences, home to academic disciplines that include the arts, humanities and sciences.

UAB Piano Series concert featuring Pavel Nersessian, 4 p.m., UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, Reynolds-Kirschbaum Recital Hall, 1200 10th Ave. South. Nersessian is known to fans and critics alike as one of the most remarkable pianists of his generation in Russia, and he is famed for his ability to play with equal talent the entire palette of piano repertoire. He has won prizes in every piano competition he has entered, including the Beethoven Competition in Vienna, the Paloma O’Shea Santander International Competition in Spain and the Tokyo International Piano Competition.
