Areas of expertise:

  • Dry eye
  • Contact lenses
  • Nearsightedness development

Pucker’s research goal is to create new knowledge to help the more than 2.5 million nearsighted patients in the world have less dependance on eyeglasses. He is driven to understand how correcting a patient’s eyesight with contact lenses could impact their eyes’ health.

He is passionate about developing new strategies to lessen overall nearsightedness as it is linked to the likelihood that one will develop a blinding eye condition. He is focused on creating more compatible contact lenses to develop eye growth reduction strategies.

Pucker’s most recent research has focused on how the eye oil glands are impacted by soft contact lens wear. He is currently investigating the mechanism by which contact lenses may negatively impact the function of the meibomian glands. His work in this area has helped him earn the Peter Able Prize, Germany’s highest optometric research honor.
