Hood is the Director of Civic Innovation in the Office of the President at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is also an Associate Professor of Management in the Collat School of Business.
Hood's work has afforded him opportunities to host fireside chats with the likes of Apple CEO Tim Cook and to take selfies with business gurus such as Warren Buffet. Hood is a highly sought after keynote speaker, panel moderator and meeting facilitator. He has developed and lead over 100 talks in just the past few years on topics such as building effective teams, community engagement, conflict management, cross-sector collaboration and entrepreneurship.
Hood's research, teaching and engagement center on the social, cognitive and behavioral correlates of innovation and strategy in interdisciplinary teams. His research has been published in the Journal of Organizational Behavior, Production and Operations Management, and the Journal of Business and Psychology among others.
Prior to academia, Hood enjoyed a 10-year career as an engineer with BellSouth and AT&T in roles such as systems design, coding, networking, and sales consulting. He was honored with the Pinnacle Award, the company’s highest honor for productivity and leadership. Prior to his career in telecommunications, he also worked for AmSouth Bank (now Regions), American General (now AIG), and Walmart.
Hood was recently honored by Alabama Power Company with their prestigious Power of Leadership Award. He has also been honored with a Community Game Changer award from the Vulcans Community Awards, in part, due to his work with NHabitBham, an initiative aimed at revitalizing inner-city neighborhoods.
