Leesar joins UAB as chief of interventional cardiology

Leesar will be chief of interventional cardiology and co-director of the UAB Heart and Vascular Center.

Massoud Leesar, M.D., has been named section chief of Interventional Cardiology and professor in the UAB Division of Cardiovascular Disease and co-director of the UAB Heart and Vascular Center. He is nationally recognized for his research in fractional flow reserve and intravascular ultrasound.

Leesar serves on editorial boards for several cardiovascular journals and has published more than 70 manuscripts. He performs complex coronary interventions in patients with left main coronary artery stenosis and multi-vessel disease and has performed more than 7,000 coronary and peripheral interventions. Leesar is regularly invited to speak at national and international meetings and has extensive multicenter trial experience. He is a member of the scientific and organizing committee of the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics conference, the world's largest educational meeting specializing in interventional vascular medicine.

Before coming to UAB, Leesar was professor of medicine, director of Cardiac and Vascular Invasive Services and associate chief of the Division of Cardiology at the University of Cincinnati.
