UAB professor honored by national organization

NAPSW promotes and supports excellence in perinatal social work to maximize healthy outcomes for babies and their families.

Baker, Ph.D., associate professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Social Work, was awarded the National Association of Perinatal Social Work (NAPSW) Award for Excellence. NAPSW promotes and supports excellence in perinatal social work to maximize healthy outcomes for babies and their families.

Baker was recognized for her outstanding achievement in the field of perinatal social work, and she was presented at the national conference in Baltimore, Md. She has published extensively, presented at several national conferences and, in 2012, received the Best Empirical Article (Quantitative) of 2011 from the Council on Social Work Education/Journal of Social Work Education.

Baker serves as NAPSW education chair. She is a disaster mental health responder with the American Red Cross and a member of the AL-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team.
