The National Council of Teachers of English has elected Tonya Perry, Ph.D., assistant professor of curriculum and instruction in the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Education, to serve on its Conference on English Education executive committee.
The executive committee is the governing body for the CEE, which NCTE has been presenting since 1965. The conference exists to help its members who are engaged in the preparation, support and continuing education of teachers of English language arts and literacy.
Perry, a past Alabama Teacher of the Year, is co-director of The Red Mountain Writing Project and has worked in various capacities with the Alabama Council of Teachers of English. Through her involvement in NCTE, she served as a representative-at-large and on several committees and advisory boards, including ReadWriteThink. She also was awarded the organization’s 2013 Richard W. Halle Award for Outstanding Middle Level Educator.
