Nursing professor receives mentorship award

The Academy Health Interdisciplinary Research Group on Nursing Issues has honored UAB’s Patrician for her commitment to the career development of young investigators.

patricia patricianPatricia A. Patrician, Ph.D., the Donna Brown Endowed Professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing, has been selected as the recipient of the Academy Health Interdisciplinary Research Group on Nursing Issues 2015 Mentorship Award recipient.

The honor recognizes the contributions of a senior scientist to the career development of young investigators who are engaged in interdisciplinary health services research on nursing issues.

Mentors must engage with their mentees in a variety of ways to be considered for the award, including: making the mentee a participant on a research team; assisting the mentee with developing scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals, being a co-author with mentee and/or recommending the mentee as a reviewer for journals; sharing information about and serving as consultant or sponsor for training and research grants; consulting and guiding the mentee on development of career plans, decision-making about potential opportunities and setting priorities; and participating in service opportunities.

AcademyHealth was established in June 2000 following a merger between the Alpha Center and the Association for Health Services Research. Founded in 1976, the Alpha Center grew to be recognized as one of the nation’s leading health policy resource centers providing research analysis, facilitation, education and training, strategic planning, and program management.
