Rediscovering the Joy of Eating for Cancer Patients

  • October 06, 2011

Chefs team up with the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center to help cancer patients whose sense of taste is being affected by treatments.

Cooking_storyCancer patients in treatment often lose their sense of taste, which can have a serious effect on nutrition and social relationships.  The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center will offer patients and their families a series of cooking classes with simple recipes designed to re-awaken taste buds and appetites.

Chef Antony Osborne from Culinard at Virginia College and Luis Pineda, M.D., from Cooking with Cancer Inc., have teamed up for an evening of cooking demonstrations and tastings in the professional kitchens of Culinard at 488 Palisades Blvd. Each class will have a different topic or perspective. The free classes will be held Oct. 25, Nov. 17, Dec. 8 and Jan. 19. Registration is recommended; enrollment is limited to 30 participants.
