VIVA HEALTHVivaHealth2 has been selected by Modern Healthcare as one of the best places to work in health care for 2019.

VIVA HEALTH has 540 employees and is an Alabama-licensed health plan. VIVA HEALTH specializes in offering high-quality, affordable medical and prescription drug coverage, including Medicare Advantage and employer group plans. In addition, VIVA HEALTH provides care coordination services for Medicaid recipients in many parts of the state. Based in Birmingham, VIVA HEALTH also has offices in Montgomery, Mobile, Dothan, Auburn and Florence.

The complete list of this year’s winners, in alphabetical order, can be found at  www.modernhealthcare.com/BestPlacesList. Modern Healthcare will publish a special supplement featuring ranked lists of all the winners in the Sept. 30 issue.

VIVA HEALTH, part of the UAB Health System, has experienced great growth in the past five years, due largely to the expansion of its care coordination programs.

“VIVA has always been a great place to work,” said Cindy Ryland-Holmes, vice president of Human Resources for VIVA HEALTH, who has worked at VIVA HEALTH since its founding in 1995. “To be recognized nationally is a true honor. Accolades like this highlight the culture of community across our organization. Key to VIVA’s success is engaged employees who believe in the mission. We treat our members like our family, co-workers, friends and neighbors — because they are.”

This Modern Healthcare award program identifies and recognizes outstanding employers in the health care industry nationwide. Modern Healthcare partners with the Best Companies Group on the assessment process, which includes an extensive employee survey.

VIVA HEALTH will be honored at the 2019 Best Places to Work in Healthcare awards gala Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Renaissance Dallas.

“Despite the political headwinds the industry faces, health care organizations continue to be dominant economic engines in their communities,” said Aurora Aguilar, editor of Modern Healthcare. “Organizations recognized on this year’s list have also weathered mergers and reorganizations and have come out stronger. As evidenced every month by the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ employment numbers, the industry shows little sign of slowing down when it comes to creating jobs. And that puts pressure on employers to create not only robust compensation and benefit packages, but a sense of loyalty in a competitive labor market. We congratulate the Best Places to Work in Healthcare for going above and beyond to create fulfilling environments for the nation’s professional caregivers.”
