  • December 10, 2019

UAB’s new Hoover Primary and Specialty Care clinic adds new medical specialties to go along with existing primary care services.

HVR StoryUAB Medicine unveiled its newest medical facility today in Stadium Trace Village in Hoover. The UAB Medicine Hoover Primary and Specialty Care clinic will house a variety of medical specialties to better serve patients in Hoover and southern Jefferson County. The 39,000 square-foot facility will begin seeing patients Monday, Dec. 16.

UAB Medicine officials held a ribbon-cutting today at the new facility, which replaces and expands on the existing UAB Medicine Hoover Primary Care clinic on Highway 150. The new facility is located at 501 Emery Drive West in the Stadium Trace Village shopping center off Interstate 459 at Highway 150.

“UAB has had a medical presence in Hoover for more than 20 years, and we are excited to expand our ability to bring the expertise of UAB Medicine to Hoover and the southern part of Jefferson County,” said Will Ferniany, Ph.D., CEO of the UAB Health System. “Health care today requires enhanced care in outpatient settings with an emphasis on wellness and prevention of disease. Our goal is to bring the skill and experience of our outstanding medical professionals to where people live, and this facility will support those efforts. We look forward to better serving the needs of the Greater Hoover area.”

In addition to adult primary care, the new clinic will house additional medical specialties, including family medicine for patients of all ages, otolaryngology (ENT), OB/GYN and gastrointestinal surgery.

The clinic will also have podiatry services, urology, vascular surgery, breast health, and oral and maxillofacial surgery, in addition to an injection clinic.

A key partnership will be with UAB Callahan Eye Hospital & Clinics with eye care professionals on-site every day. The facility will also have an optical store.

“The new facility’s outpatient primary and specialty care clinics will complement Medical West’s freestanding emergency department in Hoover, also located at exit 10 on I-459,” Ferniany said. Medical West is an affiliate of the UAB Health System. “In addition, Medical West’s replacement hospital will be built just 9 miles west along I-459 in McCalla, which will provide further access to UAB Medicine services for the residents of southern and southwestern Jefferson County.”

The Primary and Specialty Care Clinic will have a full-service laboratory and offer comprehensive imaging services, including X-ray, mammogram and ultrasound. The facility will also have the capability to perform procedures on-site in fields such as oral and maxillofacial surgery or ENT that would otherwise require a trip to the main hospital in Birmingham.

“We’re extremely proud of the look of the new building, which features natural light in the lobbies and patient care areas and eliminates the use of carpeting, which can have a detrimental impact on patients with allergies,” said Thalia Baker, associate vice president for Primary Care in the UAB Health System.

The Primary and Specialty Care clinic will employ 60 people. Brasfield & Gorrie was the general contractor. Gresham, Smith and Partners was the architect.
