Lessons learned: UAB Trauma Symposium to examine tornado response

Tornado_patients_arrivingLessons in disaster preparedness and response learned in the wake of the April 27 tornadoes will be the focus of the 14th Annual UAB Trauma Symposium. Presenters will include UAB trauma surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, psychiatrists and neurosurgeons, along with EMS officials, the county medical examiner and area TV meteorologist James Spann.

The event is set for Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel’s Medical Forum and is designed for nurses, ancillary health care providers and pre-hospital care providers. Cost is $70 and includes nine contact hours.  Registration deadline is Sept. 16. Students may attend for $40 with no contact hours.

The symposium is sponsored by the section of Trauma, Burns and Surgical Critical Care within the Department of Surgery at UAB and approved by the Alabama State Nurses Association.
