Open mic showcase, $150 prize at Alys Stephens Center’s inter-ART-ive

UAB’s Alys Stephens Center is presenting an open mic showcase for amateur musicians and the winner will take home a $150 prize.

Attention Birmingham area musicians: UAB’s Alys Stephens Center is presenting an open mic showcase for amateur musicians and the winner will take home a $150 prize.

The open mic showcase will take place between sets of Big Sam’s Funky Nation, on the main stage at the free inter-ART-ive party 6-9 p.m. Sept. 15, 2011.

open_micUnsigned artists may submit one clip, either video or audio, along with a brief bio no later than Sept. 2. Artists can be from any genre of music but will be limited to solo or duo live performances at the showcase. ASC staffers will select as many as seven performers to participate. The artists will be contacted by the ASC no later than Sept. 7 to schedule a time slot during the showcase. Winners will be announced at the end of the evening. The inter-ART-ive event is an annual free, outdoor community arts and music party featuring Big Sam’s Funky Nation, a driving force of urban funk well-loved by New Orleans Jazz Festival fans. Bring the family and friends, chairs or blankets and prepare to get down—admission to the party is absolutely free and open to all ages.

Inter-ART-ive also will feature UAB’s Marching Blazers Drumline, the UAB Steel Drum Band, an open mic showcase of local talent and a community art project, a craft beer tasting from Free the Hops and Birmingham Budweiser and food for sale from The Cantina on Wheels.
