New triple negative breast cancer support group forming

A new support group for triple negative breast cancer patients, survivors and their families has begun meeting in Birmingham.

New_LightNew Light Support Group for triple negative breast cancer patients, survivors and their families, is being established with funding from the Susan G. Komen North Central Alabama Affiliate Craft Grant and led by Andres Forero, M.D., professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology and senior scientist at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. Triple negative breast cancer is one of the most aggressive forms of breast cancer because tumors progress quickly.

The next meeting, with speakers Valerie Caterinicchia, R.N., and Cheryl Mattrella, R.N., will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 1, 2011, at Homewood Park, 1632 Oxmoor Road.
