Miss UAB 2013 Scholarship Pageant to be held Oct. 31

More than $4,250 in scholarships will be awarded as 20 young women, all from Alabama, vie for the title.

Eighteen young women will vie for more than $4,250 in scholarship prizes in the Miss UAB 2013 Scholarship Pageant, to be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at UAB’s Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. Admission is free.

The Miss UAB pageant is an official preliminary to the Miss Alabama and Miss America pageants. This year’s theme is “Catching Fire with Miss UAB,” and the emcee will be Miss Alabama 2012 Anna Laura Bryan. The entertainment portion of the event will feature Bryan, Miss UAB 2012 Elisabeth Chramer, Miss Point Mallard 2013 Elizabeth Wesson (who was Miss UAB 2011) and Miss Black and Gold of Iota Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Chassidy Sumler.

Scholarships ranging from $100 to $2,000 will be awarded to the overall winner; the first, second, third and fourth alternates; the talent and lifestyle winner; and the fitness winner. All contestants will win free facials using Artistry Skincare & Cosmetics products, and the winners will receive Artistry products and gift baskets, all sponsored by Birmingham Business Builders 3B.

The contestants, all from Alabama, are Hadley Sinquefield of Gardendale, Candy Mosley of Foley, Haylee Cornelius of Morris, Allison Morrow of Red Bay, Callie Boyd of Birmingham, Asia Sullivan of Castleberry, Haylie Reed of Huntsville, Kristin Blanchard of Childersburg, Brianna Robinson of Montgomery, Samantha Cox of Florence, Hannah Pearcy of Fort Payne, Victoria Cunningham of Hueytown, Anna Long of Alabaster, Amanda Whitaker of Morris, Haley Jennings of Birmingham, Katie Layton of Moody, Briona Allen of Hillsboro, and Mattie Boyd of Homewood. The contestants’ performances for the talent portion of the evening will include singing, dancing, African drums and a weapons demonstration.
