Alabama commerce secretary to speak on campus Nov. 8

The Leader-to-Leader Breakfast Series continues with Greg Canfield, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce.

canfieldSecretary Greg Canfield of the Alabama Department of Commerce will be the featured speaker at the Leader-to-Leader Breakfast Series Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, in the Alys Robinson Stephens Performing Arts Center’s Reynolds-Kirschbaum Recital Hall, 1200 10th Ave. South. The event, sponsored by the UAB Collat School of Business, begins with a networking breakfast at 7 a.m. Canfield will begin his lecture at 7:30 a.m.

Canfield, who also chairs the Alabama Economic Development Alliance, was appointed to his current office in 2011. Canfield and the department work to develop recruitment and expansion of economic activity in the state, export opportunities for Alabama companies, small business opportunities and avenues for job creation in the film and entertainment industry.

As chairman of the AEDA, Canfield plays a lead role in implementing the strategic plan that concentrates on the state’s strengths in 11 sectors, including aerospace and defense, automotive production, agricultural products and food distribution, steel and metals, forestry products, chemicals, biosciences, information technology, enabling technologies, distribution logistics, and corporate operations.

Tickets are $25; $15 for UAB students. Seating is limited and registration is required.
