UAB to screen “Chasing the Dream” documentary

After the screening, there will be a community discussion led by the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama.

As part of UAB’s month-long observance of Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month, the public is invited to a free screening of “Latino in America: Chasing the Dream” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013. The film, which looks at the plight of several Latinos’ pursuit of the American dream, was reported by award-winning journalist Soledad O’Brien and originally aired on CNN as part of its “Latino in America” series. After the screening, there will be a community discussion led by the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama. The event will take place in Heritage Hall 102, 1401 University Blvd.

O’Brien will give a free, public lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. O’Brien will speak on “Diversity: On TV, Behind the Scenes and In Our Lives.”
