A singer and songwriter, musician, producer, philanthropist, and entrepreneur, Legend is one of the music industry’s most innovative artists. In September, he released his fourth solo album, “Love in the Future,” using R&B and soul to create a melodic soundscape of romance, love, hope, commitment and optimism. Legend also puts his gospel and pop influences, classical training, and hip-hop sensibilities to use on the new recording.
“‘Love in the Future’ is a celebration and meditation on love,” Legend said on his website. “I was envisioning what a modern soul album should sound like, wanting to create something compelling. Even in these single-driven days, I still want to reinforce the idea of listening to an album as a whole piece of work.”
The album’s lead single, “Who Do We Think We Are,” features Rick Ross and, with its soulful grit and live-life-to-the-fullest theme, shot to the top of the R&B/hip-hop charts. The second single, “Made to Love,” is a progressive blend of soul, classical and ’80s/’90s Chicago house music. Co-produced by Kanye West, the song is complemented by the vocals of singer/songwriter Kimbra.
Legend will perform at the 56th annual Grammy Awards on Jan. 26. The next day, he will pay tribute to The Beatles and join stars including Eurythmics, who are reuniting for one night only, Alicia Keys, Maroon 5, John Mayer and Keith Urban for “The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute To The Beatles” on Jan. 27. The show will be broadcast in HDTV and 5.1 surround sound on CBS on Sunday, Feb. 9, exactly 50 years to the day, date and time of the original event.
