Join the fun and catch the Blazer spirit with festivities including the famed Gurney Derby Competition, Hoops After Dark, the Homecoming parade and UAB Football vs. Louisiana Tech at Legion Field.
High school band students will perform with the Marching Blazers at the UAB vs. Coastal Carolina football game halftime show.
On the program for Rachel Kudo’s performance is Beethoven’s 32 Variations in C minor; Schubert 4 Impromptus Op. 90; Mendelssohn’s Andante and Rondo Capriccioso Op. 14; and Schumann’s Carnaval Op. 90.

The College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Music presents many free student, faculty and guest performances, the UAB Piano Series featuring Rachel Kudo on Sept. 24, and Chamber Music @ AEIVA on Nov. 2.
The UAB Summer Band will perform a collection of popular and patriotic songs, in a new location, on the Green between The Commons and Blazer Hall.
Faculty and staff from the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Art and Art History, Department of Music and Department of Theatre explore their skills locally and abroad.
Applied music major Mira Walker submitted her performance of works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin and Liebermann, and received a $3,000 award for first place.
Presented by the Mid-South Chapter of the National Association of Composers, USA, the concert will feature new works by its members.
A sampling of the varied new season includes Emmylou Harris, Bruce Hornsby, Marc Broussard, Angelique Kidjo, Maceo Parker, dance, family and Salon series, plus free shows by Spanish Harlem Orchestra and Red Baraat.
Class of 2017 option 2A senior in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Music and the Honors College’s University Honors Program, Kasman, pianist, will graduate April 29, then embark on a tour and graduate school.
Sean Murray will begin his role leading the UAB Marching Blazers in May.  He comes to UAB from Florida Atlantic University.

Tours like this are transformative experiences, says Director Brian Kittredge. The choir is requesting donations to help make the trip a reality for as many students as possible.

The concert will feature music from the choir’s “MIRRORS” and “Nu-Soul City” recordings, plus classics and director Kevin Turner’s ode to the four little girls killed in the 1963 bombing, “You Don’t Know What I Could Have Been.”
Students studying voice are offered free screenings of their vocal cords by professionals in the UAB Voice Center to check for overuse, allergies or reflux and to prevent potential damage.
The musical performance “Air in a Loop” will feature four world premiere compositions by members of the Birmingham Art Music Alliance, performed within Jessica Angel’s site-specific, large-scale installation.
For the final performance of the 2016-2017 UAB Piano Series, Esther Park will perform a program of works by Beethoven, Schubert, Debussy and Messiaen.
Adjunct Professor Matthew Bryant will perform at the Root Signals Electronic Music Festival, and music technology senior Drew Romanowski’s piece “Eatit-n-Leave” was accepted and will be presented at the National Student Electronic Music Event.
Four former students – Maeve Brophy, Edward Forstman, Kseniia Polstiankina and Cahill Smith – will perform works by Carter, Liszt, Medtner and Rachmaninoff in honor of Professor Yakov Kasman’s 50th birthday and his 15 years of teaching at UAB.
