Jason Swanner, M.D.Jason Swanner, M.D., professor, has been appointed vice chair of Clinical Affairs for the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. In this role, Swanner will work closely with the leadership in the department, School of Medicine and Callahan Eye Hospital to organize and integrate clinical development in cohesion with the School of Medicine’s academic mission.
Swanner has served as the medical director for the Ophthalmology Services Foundation and Callahan Eye Hospital & Clinics for more than 10 years. His leadership has been integral to the significant expansion of the department’s faculty practice.
Swanner’s clinical practice specializes in glaucoma, anterior segment surgery and cataract surgery. He joined the faculty in 2003, is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Chandler-Grant Glaucoma Society and American Glaucoma Society, and is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons.
