“I’m honored and excited for the opportunity to learn and grow from this group,” Maycock said. “This board recognizes doctors from across the country who are in all walks of family practice, including academic, rural and urban, along with advocacy work.”

Since 2017, Maycock has led the Selma Family Medicine Residency Program, one of the country’s only true rural residency programs. She has been instrumental in the establishment of hospitalist service at Vaughan Regional Medical Center — the residency program’s primary teaching site — where she serves as the hospitalist director and is a member of the Medical Executive Committee.

Maycock completed her residency training at Dayton Community Family Medicine Residency after earning her medical degree from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed an obstetrics fellowship with the UAB Huntsville Family Medicine program, then stayed on as faculty in the residency program for six years before making the move to Selma, Alabama.

Outside the clinic walls, she supports her passion for community outreach and health education by partnering with Edmundite Missions, United Way, the YMCA, Selma City schools, Selma Public Library, and UAB Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center. She also has helped expand the local Doc on the Spot free clinic, which serves uninsured patients in Orville, Alabama.

“My experience as a doctor of osteopathic medicine practicing academic medicine in the rural South, along with my interests in community health and women’s health and fellowship training in obstetrics, gives me a unique perspective and voice that they value for the board,” Maycock said.

Founded in 1969, the ABFM’s primary role is to support family physicians who are committed to achieving excellence in improving the health of their patients, families and communities. The physician members of the board include 11 family physicians and five representatives selected from nominations by the American boards of Internal Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry/Neurology, and Surgery.
