UAB offers garden plots on campus to faculty, staff and students

An informational meeting and orientation for anyone interested in growing vegetables, flowers and small fruit at a site on campus

grow_food_webThe University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Sustainability Committee will hold an informational meeting and orientation for anyone interested in growing vegetables, flowers and small fruit at a site on campus. The session, open to all UAB students, faculty and staff, will cover general program guidelines, resource availability and on-site registration.

UAB will provide site security, soil tilling and initial fertilization, water for irrigation, tools and guidance for growth of typical crops. Participants will provide a small deposit and their own seeds or seedlings. They will be responsible for watering their crops and weeding their plot. Participants will be required to remove all materials at the end of the season which extends from April 15 to Nov. 30.

The orientation event will be held at noon Friday, April 5, 2013, at the Learning Resources Center, 1714 9th Ave. South, Room 104. Those interested in attending should send an email to Julie Price in the Department of Biology at juliegp@uab.edu.
