medcastUAB Medicine, one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers, is offering a series of free audio podcasts that are eligible for continuing medical education credit.

The new UAB MedCast podcasts are available on UAB Medicine’s website at uabmedicine.org/medcast, and they are ideal for physicians, nurses, technicians and other medical professionals interested in staying abreast of clinical and research developments at UAB Medicine while earning CME credit.

UAB MedCast is an extension of UAB Medicine’s MD Learning Channel, an online medical information hub that enables clinical professionals worldwide to avail themselves of the knowledge and expertise of UAB Medicine physicians. Averaging 10 minutes in length, the podcasts may be streamed directly from the website using most computers, tablets and smartphones, and they also may be downloaded and played using readily available third-party applications such as iTunes (pre-installed on all Apple devices), Stitcher (for Android devices, available from the Google Play store) or iHeartRadio.

To access individual podcasts or subscribe to the series, visit uabmedicine.org/medcast or search for “UAB MedCast” in iTunes, Stitcher or iHeartRadio. The UAB Division of Continuing Education designates that each podcast episode is worth a maximum of 0.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.

“UAB Medicine has developed a worldwide reputation for being a leader in both clinical innovation and medical education, and we are continually looking for new ways to share our knowledge with the provider community,” said Marissa Keppley, physician marketing manager for UAB Medicine. “UAB MedCast is a natural extension of this mission, and we are excited to expand into the convenient podcast platform with useful information that is also eligible for CME credit.”

The MedCast series is grouped into three distinct categories:

  • Quality and Outcomes: This area is devoted to the key process and outcomes measures used to drive improvements in patient care at UAB Medicine, and how UAB measurements differ from those at other medical centers. Included are highlights of both system- and process-based interventions that contribute to these improvements.
  • Medical Innovations: This section features details about advances in robotics and other technologies, the latest clinical trials and research studies, and the development of innovative new procedures and treatment approaches. Additionally, it showcases patient-centric breakthroughs in numerous specialties through specific cases, real-world applications and patient stories, emphasizing the potential impact on patient outcomes.
  • Clinical Skill: Clinicians at every level can sharpen their medical and procedural knowledge with these engaging presentations, which cover the latest in best practices, updates to guidelines and policies, insight on differential diagnoses, specialty care, and much more. This series focuses on critical skillsets including physical examinations, practical procedures, communication and management, and it addresses the basic science underlying new guidelines and practices — and what they imply for clinical reasoning.
