The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) College of Arts and Sciences has issued a call for team proposals as part of its focus on promoting interdisciplinary innovation.

Since January 2012, CAS has hosted monthly innovation forums to address how the university’s strengths can impact world issues. The forums are held in collaboration with faculty from the schools of Business, Dentistry, Engineering, Health Professions, Medicine, Nursing, Optometry and Public Health, as well as representatives of the UAB Research Foundation and the Birmingham Business Alliance.

Proposals are sought for team collaborations that address an important problem that crosses disciplinary boundaries and requires innovative interdisciplinary approaches. All full-time UAB faculty members and research staff are eligible to serve as principal investigators (PI) for this program. Awardees will receive up to $30,000 for a maximum duration of up to one year, and a multiple-PI format is required. Funds are intended to launch new interdisciplinary team efforts and are not intended to replace existing support from institutional or extramural sources.

Completed proposals will be considered at any time, but applicants are encouraged to submit on a quarterly basis. The next deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013. For more information, contact Yogesh K. Vohra, Ph.D., at ykvohra@uab.edu or 205-975-3675.
