UAB Medicine has been named one of the top 150 places to work in health care by Becker’s Hospital Review for the third year in a row. Health care organizations on the list were cited for national, state or local recognition previously earned for workplace excellence, as well as benefits offerings, wellness initiatives, and efforts to improve professional development, diversity and inclusion, work-life balance, and a sense of community among employees.

Organizations that made the list include hospitals, health systems, ambulatory surgical centers and home health agencies, as well as other types of health care-specific companies, like consulting firms, health IT vendors, medical societies and more.

Becker’s website lists UAB as an academic medical center that employs over 15,000 people and is composed of six medical entities. UAB Hospital, a 1,157-bed care facility established in 1945 as the teaching hospital for the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, is one of the four largest academic medical centers in the United States. UAB Medicine has earned the distinction of being one of Birmingham Business Journal’s “Healthiest Employers.” In 2015, UAB Medicine’s Callahan Eye Hospital was recognized by Press Ganey with a Guardian of Excellence Award and a Pinnacle of Excellence Award.

Becker’s credits UAB medicine with offering its employees a variety of benefits in addition to its medical, dental and vision plans, including paid parental leave (up to four months for mothers and fathers), on-site exercise classes, flexible scheduling arrangements, generous PTO and an on-site farm stand for fresh produce from March to November.
