Health occupations students gather at UAB

This year’s event drew over 850 students from 27 different high schools around Alabama.

The School of Health Professions’ Office of Student Success hosted the Alabama Chapters of the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) in April, 2013.  HOSA is a national student organization dedicated to promoting opportunities in healthcare and enhancing the delivery of quality healthcare to all people.

This year’s event drew over 850 students from 27 different high schools around Alabama. The students participated in hands-on lab work in some of UAB’s most exciting programs including biotechnology, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, and physical therapy. 

Additionally, students attended specialized seminars on some of healthcare’s fastest growing careers including health care management, clinical laboratory sciences and surgical physician assistant.

The HOSA state advisor and education administrator with the Alabama Department of Education, Collie Wells was in attendance, along with Mylinda Brown, Ed., education specialist with the Alabama Department of Education, and Margie Wooten, executive director of the Alabama chapter of HOSA.
