Opportunites for students to attend summer camps across campus continues to grow.

SummerCampJoomlaThe University of Alabama at Birmingham will host an array of summer camps this year, and registration is now available. Presented by UAB departments and groups, the camps offer fun activities for children, and easy and convenient choices for parents. UAB College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Chemistry camps:


UAB CHEMBRIDGE

About: ChemBridge provides area eighth-grade graduates with an exciting journey into big-time chemistry, including stimulating hands-on experiments, great UAB faculty and staff to help with understanding of the chemistry behind the experiments, and preparation for the high school experience. ChemBridge will promote students’ interest and knowledge of chemistry by introducing them to principles, methods, applications and experiments used in chemistry research laboratories.

UAB College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Criminal Justice camps:


Cyber Detectives Camp

About: Each day begins with staff (graduate students and digital forensics/criminal justice faculty) presentation to the teams of background on the case for the day; each team is assigned a case and will be taught how to research needed evidence. Staff will assess students’ core knowledge of the subject matter for the day (phishing, hacking, malware, etc.) by asking the group questions and engaging them in dialogue about the topic.

Camp CSI Birmingham 2019

About: On the first day of camp, students are divided into teams and given details of their first case. Each team will secure a scene, survey it, diagram it, take notes and collect evidence. After the students process the evidence, staff will reveal the true facts of the case by reconstructing what actually happened. On the last day of the camp, students will question the suspect. There will be a mock trial where members from each group will testify about their evidence as expert witnesses and play the role of prosecuting and defense attorneys.

Pre-Law Summer Camp 2019 

About: Explore unique legal landmarks around Birmingham and beyond and participate in your re-imagined trial of the Scottsboro Nine. Join us this summer as we ‘time travel’ in history and work one on one with practicing attorneys, professors and trial experts. Students will develop competencies in critical thinking and writing to be understood and will improve scholarship opportunities.
