University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) junior Lindsey Elmore was named Miss UAB 2004 on October 10 and was awarded $1,800 in scholarship money.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) junior Lindsey Elmore was named Miss UAB 2004 on October 10 and was awarded $1,800 in scholarship money.

Christina York of Florence was named first runner-up in the pageant; Alexis Medina of Tuscaloosa was named second runner-up; Kristin Nichols of Leeds was named third runner-up; and Doella L. Miller of Leesville, La. was named fourth runner-up.

Elmore, 20, of Pleasant Grove, is the daughter of David and Kay Elmore. Elmore graduated from the Jefferson County International Baccalaureate in 2000. She is majoring in chemistry at UAB and is in the Honors Program. She is a member of UAB’s chapter of Alpha Epsilon Delta and is a Hess-Abroms Scholar. Elmore also serves on the executive committee of the South Regional Honors Council. She is a choreographer for Harmony Kids and a volunteer coordinator at Project Breakout. Elmore is participating in an MD/PhD program at UAB, which will allow her to get a Doctor of Medicine degree and a Doctor of Philosophy degree.

For the Miss UAB Scholarship Pageant, 13 contestants competed in four areas: talent, eveningwear, swimsuit and interview. The Miss UAB Scholarship Pageant awards $4,350 in scholarships to the winner and top four finalists. The winner could also have the opportunity to compete in the Miss Alabama pageant later this year.
