Professor and University Scholar James F. Tent, Ph.D., has been named chairman of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of History.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Professor and University Scholar James F. Tent, Ph.D., has been named chairman of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of History.

Tent’s appointment becomes effective July 1. He succeeds Raymond Mohl, Ph.D., who will return to teaching and research full time.

Tent is a historian of modern Germany. He has focused his research on the evolution of German society and politics since 1945. He has published five books. A sixth book will be published next spring.

Tent completed his undergraduate degree in 1966 at Dartmouth College. He earned his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Wisconsin in 1969 and 1973 respectively. Tent joined the UAB faculty in 1974 and is its longest serving historian.
