The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) BioMatrix Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Center (BERM) will present a one-day symposium, Stem Cells at the Interface of Engineering and Medicine, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) BioMatrix Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Center (BERM will present a one-day symposium, Stem Cells at the Interface of Engineering and Medicine, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1. The event will be held at the Doubletree Hotel, 808 20th St. South.

The symposium will examine cutting-edge developments in the biology of hematopoietic, mesenchymal and induced pluripotent stem cells, as well as engineering strategies to develop novel biomaterials and scale-up processes to bring stem cells to the clinic.

The symposium is free and open to the public, but enrollment is limited to the first 100 registrants. Early registration is recommended; registration closes Tuesday, Aug. 25.  Speakers will include nationally prominent scientists Susan Bellis, Ph.D., Christopher Klug, Ph.D., Tim Townes, Ph.D., and Selvarangan Ponnazhagan, Ph.D., from UAB; Gregor Adams, Ph.D., the University of Southern California; Jennifer Elisseeff, Ph.D., Johns Hopkins University; William Miller, Ph.D., Northwestern University; and Todd McDevitt, Ph.D., the Georgia Institute of Technology.
