Cynthia Owsley, Ph.D., professor in the UAB Department of Ophthalmology, has been named to the scientific committee of Prevent Blindness America (PBA), one of the nation’s leading volunteer eye health and safety organizations working to prevent blindness and preserve sight.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Cynthia Owsley, Ph.D., professor in the UAB Department of Ophthalmology, has been named to the scientific committee of Prevent Blindness America (PBA), one of the nation's leading volunteer eye health and safety organizations working to prevent blindness and preserve sight.

Owsley, who holds the Nathan E. Miles Chair in Ophthalmology, is the director of the clinical research unit and vice chair for clinical research in the department.  She also holds appointments in the departments of Psychology and Vision Sciences.

The role of the scientific committee is to provide strategic guidance to the PBA board of directors, public health committee and staff on issues associated with science, medical policy and research related to vision and eye health and to ensure accurate representation of such in materials and initiatives of the organization.
