Christopher B. Clifford has been named associate vice president for Business Services for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) effective April 26.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Christopher B. Clifford has been named associate vice president for Business Services for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) effective April 26.

Clifford comes to the position after serving as chief financial officer for West Virginia University at Parkersburg. Prior to that, he was senior associate vice president for finance at Ohio University and director of budget and finance at Mississippi State University. In his new role, Clifford will oversee The UAB Educational Foundation and 19 business services units that support UAB, including Real Estate Operations, Parking and Transportation Services, Physical Security, Arena Operations, the Print Shop and the Post Office.

"Chris has demonstrated the ability to deliver superior results on complex projects across a range of financial and business management disciplines throughout his 18-year career as a senior executive in academic and corporate settings," said Richard Margison, vice president for Financial Affairs and Administration. "He also has shown tremendous leadership in customer service. We look forward to welcoming him to our leadership team." 

Prior to his career in higher education, Clifford worked for 10 years in progressively responsible finance positions with ExxonMobil, including a three-year international assignment as the finance manager for ExxonMobil Hong Kong. Clifford began his career as a financial audit professional at Ernst & Young in New York.

Clifford received his undergraduate degree in accounting from Mississippi State University and his MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He also is a certified public accountant.

Clifford replaces Hugh S. Gainer, who is retiring from the same position.
