BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Some 100 display tables and poster presentations will fill the Center Court at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Campus Recreation Center for the 2010 UAB Expo. An additional 70 Expo participants will make oral presentations on their projects at a second location inside Heritage Hall. Sponsored by the UAB Office for Undergraduate Research, the Expo is an annual event to showcase achievements in undergraduate student research. Presentations will reflect work by students representing more than three dozen majors, including scientific research, dramatic performance, music, engineering design, film production and more.

The event will be Friday, April 23 at the UAB Campus Recreation Center, 1501 University Blvd. for poster presentations, and UAB Heritage Hall, 1401 University Blvd., for oral presentations. Poster presentations will be from 12:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. and oral presentations will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Expo gives young students valuable public speaking experience that many will build on as they seek to continue their academic careers at the graduate level. Preparing a public presentation and the process of explaining their research to an audience also helps students understand more deeply their academic work and experiences.
