BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) will host the fourth annual Methods in Epidemiology and Outcomes Research Symposia: Patient Reported Outcomes from 8 a.m. to noon Monday, June 7 in Ryals Public Health Building Room 407.

Guest presenter John E. Ware Jr, Ph.D., professor and chief of Outcomes Measurement Science in the department of quantitative health sciences at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, will present "More Practical Tools for Measuring Patient Health Outcomes in Clinical Research and Practice."

Liana Fraenkel, M.D., MPH, associate professor of medicine at the Yale School of Medicine, section chief of rheumatology at the Connecticut Veteran's Administration Medical Center and co-director of the VA Bone and Joint Clinic, will give a presentation titled "Incorporating Patient Preferences into Medical Decision Making."

James Willig, M.D., assistant professor in the division of infectious diseases at UAB, will examine "Implementation of Patient Reported Outcomes in a Routine Care Setting, Opportunities to Enhance Patient Care and Research."

The symposia is sponsored by the UAB Deep South Musculoskeletal Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics for Musculoskeletal Disorders, UAB Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness Research and Education, UAB Comprehensive Arthritis, Musculoskeletal, and Autoimmunity Center, Multidisciplinary Clinical Research Center Methodology Core, UAB School of Public Health Department of Biostatistics, UAB School of Public Health Department of Epidemiology, Lister Hill Center for Health Policy, UAB Center for Clinical and Translational Science, and UAB School of Medicine Division of Continuing Medical Education.
