University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) University Honors Program student Kimberly Michelle Everett, 20, of Mobile, has won a National Security Education Program (NSEP) Boren Award for International Study.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) University Honors Program student Kimberly Michelle Everett, 20, of Mobile, has won a National Security Education Program (NSEP) Boren Award for International Study.

Everett, a junior economics major with a concentration in the philosophy of political economy (PPE), will use the scholarship to travel to China in August to study Mandarin Chinese for one semester at Beijing Language and Culture University and economics for one semester at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.

At UAB, Everett is a Dean's List honoree and the first recipient of the University Honors Program Penguin Award for academic excellence and intellectual curiosity. In addition to her academic career, she has been a member of the UAB Ambassadors and the UAB Trailblazers.

The Boren Awards provide up to $20,000 to undergraduates to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and are underrepresented in study abroad such as Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America and the Middle East. The scholarships cover the cost of travel, tuition, fees and housing.

Everett is the daughter of Richard and Clara Everett of Mobile.
