UAB Hires Diabetes Center Director

Anath Shalev, M.D., is currently the director of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She will start at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on Oct. 1, taking over for interim director Stuart J. Frank.

 


 

UAB, Cigna Still in Talks Over Expired Coverage Contract

Another month of discussions still has Cigna and the University of Alabama at Birmingham in a deadlock over an agreement on health care reimbursement rates. Currently, Cigna clients are unable to receive unrestricted medical treatment at UAB facilities. UAB’s contract with Cigna, which covers about 59,000 Alabamians, expired on May 9.
