    • 1999 – Leanne Busby, PhD '99, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She is Director of Nursing and Allied Health at the Tennessee Board of Regents and former Dean of the Jeanette Rudy School of Nursing at Cumberland University. Working with the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, she was a co-project director to develop national curriculum guidelines and regulatory criteria for family nurse practitioners. Dr. Busby was named a Visionary Leader by the UAB School of Nursing in 2010. (Updated August 2010)
    • 1999 – Mary Hill, PhD '99, serves as Associate Dean and Professor in the Division of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences at Howard University in Washington, DC. Dr. Hill has demonstrated a strong commitment to diversity in nursing education and academia by developing, implementing and evaluating programs to enhance the success of economically and environmentally disadvantaged students. She was named a Visionary Leader by the UAB School of Nursing in 2010. (Updated August 2010)
    • 1998 - Linda Smith, PhD '98, is full tenured Professor of Nursing and Nursing Program Director at Idaho State University. Smith is the 2009 Educator of the Year for Southeast Idaho which recognizes an educator for their innovation, response to adversity, customer service, and commitment to the community and students. Smith was credited for helping ISU earn national acclaim for the unique, distance-based nursing education program she developed. (Updated July 2010)

    • 1997 – Sharon Denham, PhD '97, is currently a professor at Texas Woman's University School of Nursing and former President of the International Family Nursing Association. Dr. Denham's research has largely focused on family health and Appalachian health disparities. She has numerous publications and has given many regional, national, and international presentations and has most recently published a textbook titled Family-Focused Nursing Care.     • 1996 – Marcia Holstad, PhD '96, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and is an Assistant Professor at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University. Funded by the National Institutes of Health, she leads the Music Project, testing the efficacy of an audio music program aimed at educating and motivating people living with HIV to adhere to their antiretroviral medications. Dr. Holstad was named a Visionary Leader by the UAB School of Nursing in 2010. (Updated August 2010)

    • 1994 – Wipada Kunaviktikul, PhD '94, is a 2011 inductee of the International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame and was named a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2014. She is currently one of only seven nursing professors in Thailand where she is the Director of the Nursing Policy and Outcome Center at the Faculty of Nursing, Chiang Mai University. She also serves on the World Health Organization's steering committee for Nursing and Midwifery. She was recognized in 2010 as a Visionary Leader by the UAB School of Nursing. (Updated August 2014)
    • 1994 - James Raper, PhD '94, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Nursing; the Director of the HIV Outpatient, Research and Dental Clinics; a Scientist in the Center for AIDS Research, and a Scholar in the Lister Hill Center for Health Policy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and was recognized in 2010 as a Visionary Leader by the UAB School of Nursing.     • 1992 – Judy Lott, PhD '92, is an expert in the nursing field of neonatology. She is a Former Dean of Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing in Dallas, Texas. As a Visiting Professor at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, she taught and coordinated the first Neonatal Nurse Practitioner onsite clinical course.     • 1992 - Anne Turner-Henson, PhD '92, is a Professor at the UAB School of Nursing and serves as the project director for the Leadership Education in Child-Health Nursing program.     • 1982 – Dr. Karen Reed, MSN '82, has just returned to the USA after 10 months as the US Fulbright Scholar for Cambodia 2013-2014. In that capacity, she taught undergraduate nursing at the Kampot Regional Training Center, one of Cambodia's five public nursing programs. Dr. Reed also worked with the Cambodian Ministry of Health to conduct faculty and clinical nurse preceptor workshops across the country. This was her fifth trip to Cambodia- which she calls her "heart home". She is the first nurse to ever receive a US Fulbright Scholar award for Cambodia.
