The UAB School of Dentistry, in partnership with the UAB schools of Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions and Optometry, received a $150,000 renewal grant through the DentaQuest Foundation to train professional students to work collaboratively and recognize when they should make referrals to other professions.
Suzie Miltner, an assistant professor in the UAB School of Nursing is passionate about veteran’s health care, and she has a personal understanding of what veterans need. She came to UAB to do a postdoctoral fellowship as a VA National Quality Scholar (VAQS).

School of Nursing has received a four-year, $1.2 million grant from the Health Services Resources Administration to develop a program to help veterans with military medical experience more easily transition into the nursing profession.

Advising on matters relating to the care and treatment of Veterans

Deuk Kyung Kim and Seung Min-Lee, nursing students from Wonju College of Medicine, at Yonsei University, South Korea, participated in a competitive two-week exchange program at the UAB School of Nursing.  The students worked closely with mentor Dr. Youngshook Han from February 3 until February 14.

Awards mark contributions in teaching and  service

More than 500 volunteers from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry, the UAB School of Nursing, Cahaba Valley Health Care, and other local dentists, health agencies and companies cared for more than 350 people today as part of the first UAB Dentistry Cares Community Day.

Shirey elected president of the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS)

The UAB School of Nursing has acquired the health clinic at The Foundry Rescue Mission and Recovery Center in Bessemer and began seeing patients – both residents of The Foundry and members of the community in need of health care – July 1, 2013.

UAB School of Nursing Professor Marie Bakitas has received a four-year, $720,000 grant from the American Cancer Society to study whether a phone-based palliative care intervention can help reduce access disparities for veterans, minorities and patients from rural areas who have advanced cancer.
