University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing Assistant Professor and Nurse Anesthesia Assistant Pathway Director Amy Yerdon, DNP, CRNA (MSN 2011), has been elected as a Director on the board of the Alabama Association of Nurse Anesthetists. She will serve in the role for two years.

“During the 11 years I’ve enjoyed as a CRNA, I have developed a career goal to impact the anesthesia profession through education to improve patient outcomes and experience,” Yerdon said. “I believe there are numerous ways to accomplish this goal, including serving on the ALANA Board of Directors.”

Yerdon also was appointed the Chair of the Professional Development Committee for the ALANA. In this role, Yerdon has the opportunity to influence and impact the continuing education and professional development of the CRNAs in Alabama and the southeast region.

“As an Assistant Professor for the SON, serving as a Director on the ALANA Board and the Chair of the Professional Development Committee allows me to fulfill both my personal goal to impact the anesthesia profession through education to improve patient outcomes and experience, which aligns with the mission of the School,” Yerdon said. “It is crucial now more than ever to promote the nurse anesthesia profession and I utilize every opportunity possible to accomplish this by educating the public and health care workers.”

Yerdon graduated from the UABSON Nurse Anesthesia Program in 2011. She has spent her anesthesia career at Huntsville Hospital, a level 1 trauma center and regional referral center for north Alabama and southern Tennessee. Since joining the School, she has continued her clinical faculty practice at Huntsville Hospital and has a special interest in intraoperative goal-directed hemodynamic therapy, clinical preceptor training and enhancing the utilization of multimodal analgesia, which combines various groups of medications for pain relief and enhanced recovery after surgery protocols.
