  • October 31, 2019

Tclinical pearls hnhe University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing is expanding its outreach and entering a new format — podcasting.

In October, UAB School of Nursing launched the “Clinical Pearls” podcast, adding an audio-centric arm to the UAB Nursing Health Network. The Health Network encourages nursing professionals and those interested in nursing to “Watch. Listen. Learn.” through YouTube videos, professional development opportunities, and now, podcasts.

“We are excited to have this additional offering of the show ‘Clinical Pearls,’” said Dean and Fay B. Ireland Endowed Chair in Nursing Doreen Harper, PhD, RN, FAAN. “Through this program, our faculty are able to discuss important and relevant health care issues, and a podcast is the next step toward reaching a wider audience. Through this format, we hope to reach people in their cars, at their desks and in their spare time, and to help inform and educate them.”

The “Clinical Pearls” podcast is an audio-only format of the live UAB Nursing Health Network’s YouTube series which launched in the summer of 2018. UAB School of Nursing faculty share their expertise and educational resources with the show host, while offering up-to-date information and insight on current health care issues and the nursing profession.

The podcast launch comes as Clinical Pearls enters its third season on YouTube, having reached thousands of viewers in almost all 50 states and across 20 countries.

“Since premiering a little over a year ago, ‘Clinical Pearls’ has opened conversations regarding current health care topics and even expanded its reach outside of our initial vision,” said Jacqueline Moss, PhD, RN, FAAN, Associate Dean for Technology and Innovation. “We viewed this as a continuing education opportunity for nurses, but the series has been viewed by and beneficial to the public as well. We believe providing an audio version of the show will expand our reach even further.”

New episodes of “Clinical Pearls” release every other week, and the podcast is available on iTunes, Spotify and other popular podcasting apps.
