YBCSN event teaches the whole family coping strategies

  • September 19, 2014

Saturday, April 5, 2014 young breast cancer survivors, their spouses, and children gathered at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing to attend the second annual Young Breast Cancer Survivors Network (YBCSN) Workshop.

The workshop was specially designed to help improve the quality of life for young breast cancer survivors and their loved ones through education, personal support and networking.

Sessions for women included an ask the experts panel, a survivor’s panel, and a healthy cooking demonstration from Cooking Light’s Senior Editor Tim Cebula and Register Dietitian Adam Britt.

Men learned strategies on how to effectively cope and support their loved one, while children ages 3-to 10 engaged in nutrition lessons and arts and crafts.

The YBCSN is an initiative of the UAB School of Nursing supported by the Women’s Breast Health Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham. It focuses on improving the quality of life of young breast cancer survivors and their loved ones through education, support and networking.
