The O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center recently awarded eight grants through O’Neal Invests, which funds UAB investigators initiating new cancer-related projects to do key preliminary work to enable competitive R01 applications.
The fourth grant cycle was this fall, with the review panel meeting on January 18. There were 23 grant applications, and each application was reviewed by three panel members, who scored it and provided written comments. Thirteen applications were discussed during the meeting, with eight achieving a fundable score. The eight awardees are listed below.
The grants are for $160,000 over two years. There are two RFAs per year, in the spring and fall. Cancer Center membership is not a requirement to apply, but awardees must become members. The grants are peer-reviewed by a panel of UAB faculty. Applicants who are not awarded funding receive feedback on their proposals from the review panel and are encouraged to reapply.
Letters of intent for the next round of O’Neal Invests grants are due May 1, 2022. The final grants will be due June 15, 2022. Applicants who were not successful during a prior cycle may make revisions based on critiques and reapply.
