Dr. Kim Duong is originally from Vietnam and moved to Virginia at the age of 2. She graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and a minor in East Asian Studies. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree and Masters in Vision Science from The State University of New York, College of Optometry in 2017. She currently holds the position of Clinical Assistant Professor within UABSO. Dr. Duong serves as a clinical attending for Pediatrics, Myopia Control, and Primary Care clinical services at UAB Eye Care.

Dr. Duong is interested in many areas of vision research. She has published papers in journals and presented both papers and posters at annual conferences such as the American Academy of Optometry and annual Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology on contact lenses and ocular inflammation and on children with Type I Diabetes.

Outside of clinical care and research, Dr. Duong enjoys staying involved in the community. She is currently a running coach for Girls on The Run in Birmingham. She has also used her love for running to help raise money for international medical relief during the Marine Corps Marathons. Dr. Duong has volunteered with the retinal screening team at the Children’s with Type I Diabetes held annually in Florida for the last 4 years.
