Measuring Success: Education pillar

Metric: Seniors Participating in (1 or More) High-Impact Practices

Due to their positive associations with student learning and success, certain undergraduate opportunities are designated as "high-impact," such as undergraduate research, study abroad, community service and internships. These practices provide an environment in which students can reflect, apply and synthesize what they have learned, often involving collaboration and hands-on education. Research has shown that high-impact practices are associated with higher grade point averages and student satisfaction and retention.

Data definition: Percentage of Senior Year respondents on the  National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) who said they were “Done or in progress” with an internship, learning community, study abroad, work with faculty member on research project, culminating senior experience or service-learning course. (These are the high-impact practices as defined by NSSE.) Baseline figure represents actual responses to the 2018 NSSE survey. NSSE surveys are conducted every two years. Source: National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE).
