Mentor:  Glenn C. Rowe, Ph.D, Assistant Professor in Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Disease, University of Alabama at Birmingham, 1918 University Blvd, Birmingham, AL 35294-0005.  Email:

A postdoctoral position is available in the Division of Cardiovascular Disease in the laboratory of Dr. Glenn C. Rowe. The research interest of the laboratory focuses on understanding the molecular pathways that influence mitochondrial metabolism in response to diet and exercise in the cardiovascular system. The laboratory utilizes a variety of molecular techniques, high-resolution imaging, cell-based assays as well as genetically modified mouse models. Please refer to the following publications to get an idea of the kind of work being done in the lab (Rowe et. al, AJPEM 2011, Rowe et al PLos One 2012, Rowe et. al Cell Reports 2013 and Rowe et. al Circ Res 2014).

Various projects are available, including
1.) the study of mitochondrial dynamics in response to exercise
2.) the effect on exercise on angiogenesis and metabolism
3.) the characterization of new regulator of metabolism in striated muscle

Applications should possess a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Exercise Physiology, Biochemistry or a related field. Interested individuals should send a curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research interests and career goals, and contact information for three references to Glenn C. Rowe, Ph.D.
