Mentor: Dr. Lizhong Wang, Assistant Professor, Department of Genetics, Comprehensive Cancer Center, The University of Alabama at Birmingham

Two postdoctoral research positions are available in Dr. Lizhong Wang’s research lab within the Department of Genetics, Comprehensive Cancer Center and University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Qualified candidates should have a recent PhD in cancer cell biology, biochemistry, genetics or immunology. Individuals with experience in analysis of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), dCas9-mediated transcriptional modulation, RNA translation, or cancer stem cells are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will explore regulatory mechanisms of transcription and translation in cancer, especially prostate cancer and breast cancer. These projects will be focused on targeting reactivation of tumor suppression gene in tumor cells and identifying role of oncogenic RNA translation in tumor progression. The applicants will also be involved in other ongoing projects in the field of cancer genetics using 3D organotypic cell culture models, as well as mouse models. The candidate must be able to work in a group/team environment, while also being able to work independently. Strong communication skills are need for writing and presentation of research in a multi-disciplinary research environment.
