The UAB Department of Medicine seeks a post-doctoral research associate to assist with research performed within the Division of Gerontology, Geriatrics, and Palliative Care. The successful candidate will have interest in contributing to research focused on preservation of late-life mobility and functional independence. Interested candidates should also have a strong interest in physical exercise as conducted research will be closely integrated with the UAB Center for Exercise Medicine.
Successful candidates will have a record of successfully conducting independent research as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and/or national presentations. Candidates should have experience in conducting research using human models of exercise, with preference given to candidates with additional experience using animal models. Candidates are also desired who possess basic laboratory skills, including but not limited to: performance of immunoassays, Q-PCR, and western blotting, as well as a working knowledge of biostatistics.
The post-doc will work in a team-based environment including establishment of a mentoring team to support career development. The initial full-time appointment is for 12 months, with renewal based on performance and funding availability. Candidates should possess either an MD or PhD in a biomedical science-related field by the time of appointment.
