Mentor:Talene Yacoubian, MD PhD, Associate Professor, Center for Neurodegeneration and Experimental Therapeutics, Department of Neurology, The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Email:tyacoub@uab.edu

Post-doctoral position is available in the laboratory of Talene Yacoubian in the Center for Neurodegeneration and Experimental Therapeutics at UAB. Our research focus is on understanding mechanisms of neurodegeneration in Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. We seek a highly motivated individual who can lead a new funded pilot project examining the role of 14-3-3 proteins in beta-amyloid toxicity in Alzheimer’s disease model and a related project testing small molecule therapeutics designed to increase 14-3-3 expression in Parkinson’s disease models. This second project is in conjunction with Southern Research Institute with whom we have been doing high throughput drug screening to identify new compounds that increase 14-3-3 expression.

Candidates must have a PhD in neuroscience, molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology or equivalent field, and prior experience in cell culture and small animal handling. This job involves advanced laboratory techniques in molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology. Candidates should exhibit breath of knowledge in experimental design and execution to meet research goals. Experience in primary neuronal cell culture and neurite analysis will be a plus.

The candidate will have opportunities to write manuscripts, grants, mentor students, and present key findings from the project at national and international conferences. Further, candidate will also have multiple opportunities to use his/her efforts to collaborate on multiple projects in our laboratory.

Appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extension contingent on satisfactory performance. Please include CV, research statement (less than 2 pages), and contact information of three references.
