The Department of Materials Science & Engineering and the UAB Center for Nanoscale Materials & Biointegration (CNMB) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) are pleased to announce the immediate availability of a National Science Foundation (NSF) supported postdoctoral scholar position for PhDs in materials/polymer/ biomaterials who are wishing to develop their career in the broad area of plasma surface modifications of polymeric biomaterials, tissue scaffolds and nanomaterials. We seek applicants, who are motivated, demonstrate a desire to succeed, capable to work  in time-bound manner and  to interact with scientists, faculty, and students from multi-institutional research thrusts/groups  and have a long-term commitment to cardiovascular research and plasma technologies in an academic environment. PhD in polymers and biomaterials or related physical and materials science areas with experience in cell-culture techniques are required while chemical synthesis of polymers and chemical surface modification and characterization using spectral and microscopic methods are a plus.   The ideal candidate should be willing to travel between various researches facilities across the State of Alabama for conducting collaborative experiments.

The position is available beginning November 1, 2017 and initial appointment will be for a period of one year with a salary range of $45,000 - $50,000/year. Based on satisfactory progress in meeting project milestones, this postdoctoral appointment can be extended for a period of up to two additional years.
