ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TO IMPROVE CANCER PATIENT OUTCOMES
Postdoctoral Scientist
Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)


The research lab of Dr. Carlos E. Cardenas in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a postdoctoral fellow. Our focus is on developing artificial intelligence solutions for radiotherapy treatment planning and radiotherapy treatment assessment, to implement those solutions to gain insight into overall health care delivery improvements, and to pave the way for clinical translation. The current focus of interest is on the development of an automated workflow to assess brain tumor progression on post-radiotherapy imaging. Successful applicants would be part of an established, well-funded, committed, and productive interdisciplinary research team.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Learn to develop technical tools for radiation therapy
- Learn to develop novel artificial intelligence solutions to improve cancer care
- Learn to document, analyze, and maintain research data
- Learn to mentor, students and/or trains junior research team members
- Learn to write manuscripts and present research findings at conference


ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Candidates for this position must have a Ph.D. in computer science, electrical engineering, medical physics, or a closely related physical science. Successful applicants must be highly motivated, independent and must have experience with scientific computer programming (Python, Matlab). Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Experience with PyTorch/Tensorflow, medical image analysis, Django app development is a plus. The individual is expected to work within a large group of motivated interdisciplinary researchers, including clinicians, postdoctoral fellows, and other research staff. This position is for one year, renewable.
